In case you’re wondering where some of our previous posts and pictures on our blog and Facebook have gone, feel assured that they will return after Bid Day! We had to remove a lot of coverage because they had pictures or featured accomplishments of our Pi Chi’s! We will miss them while they are gone, but know they are extremely proud to work with PHA to put on the best recruitment at Mizzou! Recruitment is August 11-18, we are counting down the days until we get to recruit the 2013 pledge class in our brand new home! Have a fabulous and safe summer, see you in August!
Congratulations to the Men of Alpha Epsilon Pi!
Every two years, the men of Alpha Epsilon Pi hold their philanthropy “Rock-A-Thon” to raise money for the American Cancer Society. One of their active members sits in a rocking chair for a total of 63 hours on a stage in Downtown Columbia without getting up for any reason, while the rest of his brothers are canning around Missouri to make money. This year’s rocker was Brendan Lyss who not only rocked for the total 63 hours, but also celebrated his birthday in the rocking chair. The men of Alpha Epsilon Pi created a goal of raising at least $83,000, and we so proud to announce that they raised a total of $123,000 for cancer research. Not only did this exceed their goal, but they also broke the national philanthropy record for all fraternities. Being their homecoming partners, Chi Omega has become very close to the AEPi men and we are so proud of all that they accomplished. Their dedication to their philanthropy and brotherhood is remarkable and we were so happy to help them reach their goal.

We are ready for Homecoming 2013!
The votes have been counted, and the women of Chi Omega are thrilled to announce that we will be paired with the lovely men of Delta Tau Delta for homecoming in the fall of 2013! The over all theme for the 102nd Homecoming is “Great American Cities,” with our city being, ORLANDO! We also elected new homecoming liaisons, (name omitted because she is a Pi Chi) and Caroline McMahon, we can only imagine the great success that is possible next semester. We cannot wait to work with the boys of Delta Tau Delta to produce amazing results. Also, we would like to wish the best of luck to every homecoming pairing and cannot wait to see what we can accomplish as a Greek community!

Chi Omega takes home the #mupha prize!
If you’ve been looking at Chi Omega’s twitter, Instagram or Facebook posts this month you may have noticed the hashtag, #mupha appearing everywhere. Well, this was because this month all chapters of PHA participated in a social media contest. The winner was based on each chapters blog, Facebook, and twitter posts and their ability to promote their chapter as well as Greek Life. Sisters tweeted at other chapters to congratulate them on new initiates, wish them luck with their philanthropy, or simply just tweeted sisterly things.
We were excited to find out this week that we had won the #mupha contest (or as we call it “moopha”) and will be rewarded $1,000 for Make A Wish! Thank you to PHA for putting on this contest especially Jory Mick, the VP of Public Relations!

Chi Omega, Phi Kappa Theta, and Alpha Tau Omega place Second in Greek Week!
Let’s just give a round of applause to our amazing sisters and the wonderful men of Phi Kappa Theta and Alpha Tau Omega for placing SECOND overall in this year’s Greek Week!
For the past couple of weeks, Chi O, Phi Kap and ATO have been working hard in order to raise money for Camp Kesem. Placing was no easy feat, and we were faced with some tough competition.
Blood: We were so proud to be the pairing that provided the most blood donors at the annual blood drive for Greek Week! 101 donors showed up, which is incredible. A shout out to our fantastic blood liaisons for keeping it together and getting a bunch of people to donate in our name!
Sports: This year, we dominated in sports. As fans lined the fields and courts for the weekend events, our players gave it their all. We placed third in soccer, second in basketball (after a heated championship game), and finally FIRST in volleyball! This was an outstanding performance from all of our teams, and our pairing ended up placing second in sports overall. Congratulations, girls!
Service: Each member of our pairing was required to donate at least 3 canned goods throughout Greek Week, which were donated through the Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri and 129 affiliated food pantries. The girls also did a day of service for Camp Kesem, our beneficiary this year. Considering we placed first in service, I would say giving back was a success!
Fling: Our fling’s theme this year was Frankenstein. The skit was hilarious and our dancers rocked it. We cheered our skit and dance teams on as they played Frankenstein back in high school, and it was priceless!
Although these are just a couple of highlights from all of the events we participated in, Greek Week was such a rewarding experience for all of the girls. We would like to give a special congratulations to Kappa Kappa Gamma, Lambda Chi Alpha and Sigma Pi for placing first overall, and to all of the other houses for doing a great job as well. The past couple of weeks were a great way to enjoy sisterhood and some friendly competition, while also giving back to a beneficiary that our fraternity pairings (and we) really cared about. Marlee Visit!
On April 20th, 2013, Marlee, our Make-A-Wish kid finally came to visit. Marlee is a very energetic and sweet six-year-old boy who loves sharks. He has VHL, a neurological condition where his body cannot suppress tumor growth. Since he loves sharks and everything “under the sea” we sponsored him and his family to make a trip down to Discovery Cove in Orlando, FL.
Before he left for this trip, we threw him a fantastic shark themed-under-the- sea-party. The sidewalks were decorated in marine animal sidewalk chalk art and the house had all kinds of under the sea decorations. All the girls and some great fraternity men lined the streets of Richmond as we waited anxiously for Marlee to arrive.
When he finally arrived, we enjoyed some delicious cheese pizza (his favorite) and ice cream as he marveled over the giant basket of shark toys we made him. We had a great time playing with him outside on our front lawn and talking to him about his favorite sharks. He particularly enjoyed squirting his shark water gun at everyone!
Overall, the day was perfect. The sun was out and everyone had a great time spending time with Marlee! The day really reiterated what we stood for – striving to be a group of passionate, caring, and genuine young women. We love you, Marlee and hope you have an amazing time at Discovery Cove!

A Family Reunion Better Than Any Other
According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, the term “sister” means “one that is closely similar to or associated with another”. To us, it means “Being a Chi Omega”. On Friday, April 5th, the Rho Alpha chapter celebrated their 100th year being on Mizzou’s campus. Sisters from the pledge class of 1944 all the way to the actives got together and shared their sisterhood throughout the weekend. There were house tours of the present Chi Omega house, as well as tours of the new house that will be officially open in August when the 2013 pledge class moves in! Even though we said good-bye to our old house last summer, alumni were able to buy different products made out of the wood that was saved when the house was torn down. We showed them our spirit with our recruitment skit and trolley tours were given to show them that new atmosphere of Mizzou since our switch to the SEC.
There was also a banquet on Tiger Plaza, which included a lot of delicious food, dancing, pictures from the past, and a recognition of the many things that the Chi Omegas have achieved as a chapter and individually. At one point all of the sisters, alumni and actives, joined hands and sang the song “Shades” together bringing tears to many eyes and reiterating the bond that we all share.
Seeing all of the alumni come together was the greatest gift that anyone could have asked for. It brought an even warmer feeling to Chi Omega and stressed how important our sisterhood is even after we all graduate at Mizzou. As actives, we know that we have a lot of big shoes to fill after seeing all of the alumni this weekend. They showed us that “Greek Life” is not just something you participate in throughout college, but also something that binds you for life. We would like to thank them for continuing to show us everything that we stand for as Chi Omegas, and we know that we will continue to make them proud.

A Night of Trivia and Talent 2013
Every spring we host our “A Night of Trivia and Talent with the Women of Chi Omega” philanthropy. All profits go towards our philanthropy, the Make-A-Wish foundation. In total, we raised $3,750 this year!! We are very excited to be granting a wish for Marlee who has VHL, a neurological condition where his body cannot suppress tumor growth. He loves sharks so we will be sending him and his family to Discovery Cove in Orlando, Florida!
Trivia night is always very fun and the all the chapters enjoy the friendly competition. Teams of 10 participate in 8 rounds of trivia ranging from Mizzou facts, song lyrics, classic movie lines and even “Guess Which Celebrity Baby Picture”.
This year 32 teams consisting of Greek chapters participated in our event at the Stony Creek Inn on March 19th. Beta Theta Pi and Sigma Chi tied for first place for the Trivia rounds and Alpha Tau Omega won our banner competition. Our very own Christina Holland and Dan Philyaw from Lambda Chi Alpha performed a duet, a group of fantastic Alpha Epsilon Pi guys performed and Senior Paige Flores ended the night with her original “Burnham Avenue.”
After calculating all the components, the men of Beta Theta Pi came in first, the men of Sigma Chi came in second and the men of Delta Tau Delta came in third place.
Also, a big round of applause goes to our two philanthropy chairs, sophomores Kristen Ottenlips and Melanie Weinrich, for making the night possible. Thank you for all who participated and helped us in granting a wish for sweet Marlee!

Chi Omegas at Beta Theta PIES!
Today, many Chi Omegas went and participated in the men of Beta Theta Pi’s first ever, Beta Theta PIES. At this event, people had the opportunity to come by and “pie” faculty members, as well as the men of Beta, and queen candidates from each sorority. Our queen candidate, Ellie Dyer, took multiple pies to the face like a champ!
This event was very near and dear to our hearts because it benefitted Mothers Against Drunk Driving, and was in honor of a very dear friend to many of our sisters, as well as the Greek community, Emily Ferguson. We had a blast at this philanthropy, and can’t wait to participate in years to come!

Chi Omegas go on Spring Break!
After months of cold weather and stressful schoolwork, everybody’s favorite week of the year arrived: Spring Break! We had Chi Omegas head home, hit the beach, and even do service work over the break.
Big groups of Chi Os headed to Panama City Beach in Florida and Gulf Shores in Alabama, both hot spots for college spring break trips. Judging by all of the pictures posted on Facebook, there is no doubt that these girls had an amazing time with each other and took the South by storm!
On the other hand, a handful of dedicated sisters participated in Alternative Spring Break (ASB). Mizzou’s ASB is a remarkable program which selects students to do service work all over the country for a week. We had girls travel to South Carolina, Florida, Georgia, and even South Dakota!
Alyssa Sturgis, a freshman Chi Omega, said, “I was hesitant at first to go because I thought I would be missing out on all the sister bonding in Gulf Shores, but going on this trip was the best decision I could have made for myself.” Alyssa traveled to South Carolina for ASB, where she worked with others on a bridge for hikers in Francis Marion National Park. She also said she loved forming close friendships with people outside of the Greek community. Round of applause for the lovely ladies, including Alyssa, that skipped the beach and got right to work!
It goes without saying that a week home, on the beach, or helping others is priceless, especially when you have a chance to meet new people or make new memories with your sisters. But the best part of spring break is coming back and being all together again.
