Chi Omegas “Polar Plunge” for Special Olympics!

This past weekend was the annual Polar Plunge, held all across the country to support the Special Olympics. Participants form teams, raise money, and then jump in a lake in the middle of winter! This year, 12 Chi Os braved the elements to jump into Stephens Lake here in Columbia, some complete with costumes.

The Polar Plunge hosted a Greek Challenge, which gave a free bus pass for the Spring semester to the sorority or fraternity that raised the most money. Chi Omega won this Greek Challenge, beating all other houses with a total of $1,060 in fundraising! Awesome job girls!

According to Polar Plunge officials, the air temperature was 34 degrees, and the water temperature was even chillier, at 24 degrees. Brrr!

Our reward at the end? Lots of hot chocolate, the satisfaction of helping out a great cause, and a pretty sweet sweatshirt!

Overall, 360 plungers participated in this event, raising over $60,000. Now that’s what I call freezin’ for a reason! Chi Omega is so proud to be a part of such a great fundraiser!
